Share:

Kenya Revenue Authority has a new Commissioner General following the appointment of Adan Abdulla Mohamed.

According to Gazette Notice No. 7393 issued under the Kenya Revenue Authority Act (Cap 469), Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi appointed Adan Abdulla Mohamed to head the tax authority for a period of three years effective May 18, 2026.

The notice states that the appointment was made in exercise of powers conferred under Section 11(1) of the Kenya Revenue Authority Act.

Adan now takes over leadership of the country’s tax collection agency at a time when the government is under pressure to enhance revenue collection, widen the tax base and improve compliance amid growing fiscal demands.

The former cabinet secretary becomes the latest official to occupy one of the most influential public finance positions in Kenya.

Among those who have previously served as substantive KRA Commissioner General are:

  • Edgar Manasseh – the founding Commissioner General of KRA.
  • Michael Waweru.
  • John Njiraini.
  • James Githii Mburu.
  • Humphrey Wattanga Mulongo.

The authority has also at different times been led in acting capacity by senior officials including Rispah Simiyu and Lilian Nyawanda.

The appointment marks a new chapter for the revenue authority as the government intensifies efforts to boost domestic revenue mobilisation and strengthen economic reforms.
