Hussein Matan Appointed RTG Garissa Reporter

RTG Digital has appointed Hussein Matan as a Reporter, to strengthen grassroots coverage of governance, politics, development and community affairs across Gariss, Northern Kenya and beyond.

The Radio and Television of Garissa (RTG Digital) has appointed Hussein Matan as a Reporter, strengthening the media house’s commitment to expanding professional news coverage and amplifying local voices across Garissa County and Northern Kenya.

Mr. Matan will cover a wide range of stories, including governance, politics, development, health, education, security and community affairs.

RTG Digital combines digital storytelling, news reporting and multimedia content to reach audiences across platforms.

Mr. Hussein Matan welcomed the appointment and pledged to serve the public through responsible journalism, with a focus on stories that inform communities, highlight development and give a voice to local residents.

The reporter will enhance RTG Digital’s efforts to strengthen its grassroots reporting network and provide audiences with reliable coverage of events and issues shaping Garissa County and the wider Northern Kenya region.

He will provide timely, accurate and balanced reports to the growing audience of the Northern Kenya-based digital radio and television news network.

Mr. Yunis Dekow, Founder and Editor of RTG Digital, said the appointment reflects the media house’s commitment to strengthening its newsroom and investing in journalists capable of delivering credible, community-focused journalism.

“Matan joins our reporting team at an important time as RTG continues to expand its coverage and strengthen its presence in Garissa and across Northern Kenya.

We expect him to uphold the highest standards of accuracy, fairness and professionalism in his work,” Dekow said.

Matan is a graduate of Garissa Media Lab, a modern digital media and innovation training centre established to equip youth, journalists, students, entrepreneurs and content creators.

Participants are equipped with practical skills in journalism, multimedia production, digital communication, leadership, entrepreneurship and emerging technologies.

 

Yunis Dekow is a Kenyan journalist and communications professional with more than a decade of regional experience.

 

Dekow, who founded Garissa Media Lab, said the centre was established to help address the digital skills gap in Northeastern Kenya by providing affordable, accessible and industry-focused training.

“Our mission is to bridge the digital skills gap in Northeastern Kenya by providing affordable, accessible and industry-focused training that creates employment, promotes innovation and strengthens ethical journalism,” Dekow said.
