President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud described Laascaanood as a symbol of Somalia’s unity and national identity while attending the inauguration of the President and Vice President of the North Eastern State of Somalia on Saturday.
He termed the event a historic step in strengthening national cohesion. President Hassan Sheikh noted that the North Eastern State was formed through reconciliation, dialogue, and popular will, and is a full member of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
The President reaffirmed the Federal Government’s support for peace efforts, including reconciliation, reopening of roads, trade facilitation, and social cohesion, and called on all stakeholders, including international partners and the diaspora, to support the region’s development.
