Early Exposure to Technology Key to Preparing Children for the Future

Share:

Introducing children to technology during their early years of learning is essential in preparing them for a future increasingly shaped by digital innovation, an Early Childhood Development (ECD) teacher at Tumaini Primary School has said.

Mr. Abdullahi Mohamed, during an interview with RTG Digital on the importance of technological lliteracy in early childhood education, emphasized that exposing young learners to technology at an early age equips them with foundational skills that will enable them to thrive in a rapidly evolving world.

He noted that digital transformation is reshaping nearly every sector, including education, healthcare, agriculture, business, and public service, making technological competence a necessity rather than a luxury.

“Technology has become part of everyday life. By introducing learners to digital tools at an early age, we help them develop critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving abilities, and confidence in using technology responsibly,” said Mr. Mohamed.

The educator explained that early exposure to age-appropriate educational technologies enhances interactive learning, improves engagement in the classroom, and nurtures curiosity among children.

He further observed that as future employment opportunities become increasingly technology-driven, learners who acquire digital skills from a young age will be better positioned to adapt to emerging careers and innovations.

Mr. Mohamed called on schools, parents, and education stakeholders to support the integration of technology into Early Childhood Development classrooms by investing in digital learning resources, reliable infrastructure, and teacher training.

He added that while technology should complement—not replace—traditional teaching methods, its thoughtful integration can significantly enrich the learning experience and prepare children for success in the digital age.

Kenya is advancing digital learning initiatives aimed at equipping learners with the competencies required in the 21st century, as technology remains a vital component of quality education.
